Louzon Black Hartis "Tootsie" Mrs. Hartis, 97, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 23rd in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home with the Reverend Bob Owens officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery with great grandsons and great great grandsons serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Born August 14, 1914 in Charlotte, Mrs. Hartis was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lula Baker Black. Born August 14, 1914 in Charlotte, Mrs. Hartis was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lula Baker Black. She grew up in the Sharon Community and graduated from Sharon School. Mrs. Hartis worked for many years as a cafeteria manager at West Mecklenburg High School and retired from the Central YMCA. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and later Craig Avenue ARP Church.
Her family includes her daughter, Dorothy H. Monroe of Garden City Beach, SC; and seven grandchildren, Phyllis James, Dianne Caldwell, Mickey Klimaitis, Chuck Monroe, Jerry White, Russell White and William White; as well as ten great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Price Hartis on May 19, 1959, and two children, W. P. "Bill" Hartis, Jr. and Judith Hartis White.
