Lucille Snedden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2017.

Old Town - 92 - Lucille Snedden passed away at Eastern Maine Medical Center on June 8, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 9, 1925 in Stillwater, the daughter of Howard and Mabel (Buck) Stormann. Lucille graduated from Old Town High School in the class of 1944. After World War II, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold (Tooey) Harris and became a wonderful homemaker and mother to four children. She and Tooey were married for 38 years before he lost his four year battle with cancer. Her interests included cooking, knitting, sewing, picking berries, and dancing. And boy did she love chocolate! As her children got older she went to work at the University of Maine, retiring from the Office of Student Records in 1991. She was a kind, affectionate and thoughtful woman who loved meeting people and giving them hugs. She was especially proud of her family and was always there to give advice, support and comfort, but most of all, love. Lucille is survived by her second husband, George Snedden, Jr. Six years after Tooey passed away, Lucille and George were introduced to each other by her long-time friend Madeline Belcher. George had also been a widower for many years and Madeline thought they would 'hit it off.' They did and were happily married for 27 years. Lucille is survived by her four children, Dianne King and her husband Stuart, Allan Harris and his wife Bonnie, Thomas Harris, Brian Harris and his wife Pamela, four stepchildren, Scott Snedden and his wife Elizabeth, George (Lucky) Snedden and his wife Brenda, Holly Marshall and her husband Tom, Heather McGowan and her husband Wayne, grandchildren, Steve Harris and his wife Lisa, Aaron King and his wife Erin, Adam King and his wife Angela, Shawn Snedden and his wife Jeanette, Heidi Witham and her husband Mark, a brother, Ronald Stormann and a sister Carlotta Cross. She and George combined had twenty-three great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Lucille is also predeceased by brothers Howard, George and Fenton Stormann and sister Prudence Hines. She will be sadly missed by her remaining friends in a club called the Nit Wits. The Nit Wits met weekly for over 40 years in one another's homes enjoying lunch, crafts, cards and laughter. The family would like to thank the staff of Orono Commons for the care they gave Lucille during her nearly three year stay there. She was recently elected as Vice President of the Resident Council. She participated in all activities with enthusiasm, but Bingo was her favorite. Lucille saw many residents come and go including two good friends, Ellen Gifford and Mildred Cote. Her friendly and caring demeanor will be remembered fondly by the many CNAs, nurses, physical therapists, activities personnel, kitchen staff and administrators. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Old Town United Methodist Church followed by a social gathering with light refreshments. Burial will be at Lawndale Cemetery directly following the service and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Activities Department at Orono Commons, in care of Gina Barrera, 117 Bennoch Road, Orono, ME 04473.
