Lucy Jubera, 92, passed away at home in St. Clair Shores on November 23, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband, John. Lucy was born in Kentucky and raised on farms in Indiana and Tennessee. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and left Tennessee to work as a secretary in Washington D.C. for the war effort. During World War II she came to Detroit and worked for the Briggs Co. as an airplane riveter, a true "Rosie the Riveter." She married her husband in 1945 upon his return from the war. They had 5 children: Dane, Kevin (Barbara), Vance (d), Jeffrey (Mickey), Jill, and seven grandchildren.
After the death of her son Vance, Lucy earned her nursing degree. She was a delivery room nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mt. Clemens and retired as a nurse from St. Joseph's Home for the Aged. She was a founding member of the First United Methodist Church in St. Clair Shores.
Lucy was an avid athlete, playing softball and volleyball into her 70's. She took up golf when John retired and made two hole-in-ones in her career. She also bowled in 3 leagues and rolled her last game on her 90th birthday.
She was admired, respected and loved by everyone who knew her and we will all miss her kindness and strength.

Lucy and I met when I started bowling with her senior league 15 years ago. She made me feel welcome even though she didn't know me. May happy memories of Lucy carry her family and friends through this sorrowful time. Wishing you and your family strength and peace Jill. You're in my thoughts, my heart, and my prayers. God Bless.
