Lucy Agnes Blankenship, a resident of Gresham, Oregon, died on April 15, 2012 in Gresham. She was 90 years of age. Lucy was born in Schoenchen, Kansas on March 9, 1922 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Leontine Wolf. As a Child, she moved to Kansas City where she attended Catholic School. In 1942, she married Jess W. Blankenship in Amarillo, Texas. During WWII, Lucy was the true "Rosie the Riveter." She built aircraft for the military. Lucy was born in Schoenchen, Kansas on March 9, 1922 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Leontine Wolf. As a Child, she moved to Kansas City where she attended Catholic School. In 1942, she married Jess W. Blankenship in Amarillo, Texas.
During WWII, Lucy was the true "Rosie the Riveter." She built aircraft for the military. When the war ended, her focus became her husband and family and she was a homemaker.
In 1985, she moved to Portland, Oregon to be closer to her son. In 2001 she moved to Gresham. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Lucy was a caring and loving person that always helped a friend or family member in need. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and volunteered with many youth groups and organizations while her children were growing up. She was friend and a great listener and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lucy is survived by her son, Dr. Jess Blankenship of Gresham and her step-son, Jan Blankenship of Sacramento, California along with 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her husband, Jess, sons, Dick Gieber, Bobby Gieber and Fred Gieber, Sandy Blankenship, sister Ruby Fischer, brother James Wolf all preceded her in death.
A private gathering will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in memory of Lucy to the Salvation Army. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
