Lucy D. Gibson age 87 of Stamford CT died on Wednesday April 2, 2014.
Lucy was born in Tolve, Italy and her mother passed away when she was just one year old. She came to America with her identical twin, Mary, and older sister, Antoinette, in 1934. They were raised by their aunt and uncle on a farm in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school, Lucy moved to New York City and began schooling to become a registered nurse. She enjoyed a career at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital before moving to California to educate herself further and became a nurse anesthetist.
She met her husband Rod at a Young Republicans meeting in San Francisco, California where Rod was in charge of public relations and Lucy was attending. Lucy caught Rod's eye and they became acquainted shortly after. They were married in November 1962 and honeymooned in the Poconos. They lived in an apartment in Fresno, California where their two sons, John and Ted, were born. They moved to a home in Walnut Creek, California until the late 1960's when they relocated to Mountainside, New Jersey. They settled in Stamford, Connecticut, where they have lived for the last 41 years. Lucy held a position as a registered nurse at St Joseph's Hospital followed by Pitney Bowes until she retired.
Lucy enjoyed tending to her flowers in her yard and took great pride in her rock garden, in addition to many varieties of indoor plants from orchids to lemon trees. She loved visits from her grandchildren, always making sure to feed them well every time she saw them. Lucy was an avid Yankees fan and liked talking to her twin sister Mary about the players and the games, always rooting for the closing pitchers who saved the game.
Lucy is survived by Rod, her husband of 51 years; her son Ted and his two children Brittany and Kyle; Ted's wife Marlene and her two children Brianna and Dylan; her brother-in-law, Pat; and three nieces and a nephew. Lucy was predeceased by her son John in 1983, her sister Antoinette in 2010, and her twin sister Mary in 2012.
