Obituary

Former Staten Island resident Luigi DiFilippo, 91, of Jackson, N.J., a tailor and retired business owner who was a devoted family man, died Thursday at home. Mr. DiFilippo was born in New Brighton. He moved with his family as a child to Teramo, Italy. In 1950, he returned to New Brighton and lived there until his retirement when he moved to Port St. Lucie, Fla. He settled in Jackson in 2006. A tailor by trade, Mr. DiFilippo along with his wife Livia owned and operated Richmond Tailor and Dry Cleaners in New Brighton for more than 45 years. Former Staten Island resident Luigi DiFilippo, 91, of Jackson, N.J., a tailor and retired business owner who was a devoted family man, died Thursday at home.

Mr. DiFilippo was born in New Brighton. He moved with his family as a child to Teramo, Italy. In 1950, he returned to New Brighton and lived there until his retirement when he moved to Port St. Lucie, Fla. He settled in Jackson in 2006.

A tailor by trade, Mr. DiFilippo along with his wife Livia owned and operated Richmond Tailor and Dry Cleaners in New Brighton for more than 45 years.

A soccer enthusiast, Mr. DiFilippo, owned the Staten Island soccer club "Columbo," which earned the American Soccer League title in 1960, family said. He also rooted for the Italian soccer team Juventus.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling and excursions to Atlantic City. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

On the Island, he worshiped at St. Paul's R.C. Church, West Brighton.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Livia.

Mr. DiFilippo is survived by his two daughters, Lea Osso and Pia Brady; his brother, Domenic; his sister, Maria Marconi; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, New Brighton. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
