Luisa Martina Velasquez, 31, of Stamford, Connecticut passed away Monday, October 21, 2013, after battling stomach cancer with extraordinary courage and grace.

Luisa was born in Lima, Peru and immigrated to the United States with her family at an early age. She was a graduate of St. Brendan's High School in Miami class of 2000, earned a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Finance from the University of Miami in 2004 and an MBA from Cornell University in 2012. Luisa truly lived life to the fullest. She treasured her time with friends and family. She had a passion for traveling and ethnic food. She loved art, music, and dance. Luisa touched the lives of many and found a large extended family at UM, Cornell and GE where she was respected for her capabilities and loved dearly for her positive energy, generosity and enthusiasm in all that she did. She was playful, comedic, non-judgmental, compassionate, and always welcoming. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her parents Miguel and Martina (Acosta) Velasquez of Miami, Florida; and four siblings: Ana Velasquez and her husband Mario Jeronimo of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Rosa Velasquez and her husband Calixto Perez of Boston, Massachusetts; Betty Velasquez of Quincy, Massachusetts; Miguel Velasquez and his fianceé Jennifer Reed of Miami, Florida; nephew, Carlos Jeronimo of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; niece, Karina Jeronimo of Dartmouth, Massachusetts and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dear Velasquez family please know that you raised a beautiful angel and I'm very grateful to have met her - Luisa was my first friend in the ECLP program at GE and we remained close throughout - she has left a gap that no one can fill and she will be truly missed... I will treasure her love of dance, bright colors, dogs, autobiographies and chocolate... She was indeed a dear friend and we feel the void left and thus will cherish her memories... Luisa truly loved life and she lived every moment...There are some adventures I'll remember with a smile because she pushed me to partake in them and for that I will forever be grateful... I don't know how many times I said "Luisa you're loco!" I will miss you Lu Luv... Peace, Love, & Chocolate! Xoxoxo

To Luisa's family - I was so sad to hear of Luisa's passing. I had worked with her on the ECLP diversity committee and she impressed me so with her energy and positivity; I always thought of her as a role model for the rest of her ECLP class. As shown by her picture, her smile was radiant; her personality was even more so. Our interactions were brief but meaningful, and I will miss her. May your memories of her comfort you during this difficult time.

I cannot begin to offer my deepest sympathies for the Velasquez family as they go through this traumatic time. Luisa was a stunningly beautiful person both inside and out and she touched my life in so many ways. In addition to being a good friend when we worked together at the Marketing Department at the University of Miami she was the one responsible for introducing me to her sister Rosa and thus ushering in 5 of the best years of my life. There is no way I can ever repay such a debt...I will simply carry Luisa in my thoughts and prayers forever and when I do pass and go to heaven I'll be looking for those kind eyes and warm spirit and telling her how much she's been missed. Mr. and Mrs. Velasquez, you have raised 5 perfect children and Luisa is a shining example of that...thank you for letting her beautify my life and those she came in contact with however briefly. She is gone much too soon but her spirit will live on forever.

There are no words that can express the deep sense of loss and sadness that I feel from Luisa's passing. Even with the distance and years that have separated us lately, Luisa and all of you have always been in my heart. I want so much to give each of you a heartfelt hug and tell you all that I love you, and that I am here for you. My earliest memories of Luisa go back to the days when we were all neighbors, playing with other kids in our complex. Even then, we all knew what a strong sense of family you all had, and the mutual support, understanding, respect, and above all LOVE that it was so palpable in the way all of you were with each other. So, it's no wonder that Luisa grew up to be a woman of such genuine compassion, integrity and values; a testimony to the goodness of her heart and the remarkable parents and siblings she grew up with. We can take some comfort in knowing that Luisa really lived her life. She also exhibited such strength and grace of spirit in the face of so many obstacles. I think we can learn a lot from Luisa. She was a devoted daughter, sister, friend and member of the community. She took pride in her accomplishments and clearly had a sense of contentment that was unusual for someone as young as she was. She was a wonderful person, and she will always live in our hearts. Without question, she has made heaven a brighter and more beautiful place.

Luisa, I love you, and you will forever be in my heart.

I send my deepest condolences, love, and prayers. I felt an immediate connection with Luisa from the moment I met her freshman year. She was one of the friendliest people I know who put people at ease by her peaceful demeanor. I also loved her innate curiosity about her surroundings and interest in her friends. Most of all, I remember her incredible zest for life and wonderful love of food. She was a person who enjoyed simple pleasures and delight of the senses, and I will miss her dearly and cherish the moments I spent with her. I imagine her surrounded in heaven by friends and family and delicious food always. Sendings my love and prayers to Luisa and the family she was so proud of and loved so much.

I lived on Luisa's floor in the Dorms at the University of Miami and was good friends of hers during that period. She absolutely loved eating at Moon across from the University and drinking Thai Iced teas. Luisa was always expanding her horizons and convincing us to try new restaurants and get involved in the community. Having known her in college I am not at all surprised that Luisa accomplished so much in her life in such a short period of time. Her generous spirit and exuberance for life will be missed.
