He was born in Mechanicsburg, Ohio on December 24, 1914, the son of John C. Reedy and Elizabeth Benston Reedy. Mr. Reedy retired from a life-long career in newspaper work and the Military (Lt. Col. USMC).
Luther "Bud" Reedy started his newspaper career as a newspaper carrier before he was 10 years old and went through the ranks ending up as Circulation Director at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. In 1962 he left the newspaper to work at Washington National Insurance.
Shortly after the start of WWII, Luther joined the Marine Corps. Later Luther spent 29 months in the South Pacific during WWII including stints on the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. He served as Commander of the Pittsburgh Marine Corps Reserve Battalion in the 1950's. He had charge of the "Indian Talkers" during WWII.
"Bud" was a World Class hunter and fisherman, having traveled all over the world to fish and hunt "big game". He was also an avid golfer that continued to play golf at least three times a week and shot less than his age. His credo was "There are those that DO and those that talk about doing". He was always a "doer" and instilled that in his family.
Mr. reedy had been an active member in the SAR, Sons of the American Revolution, a 32nd degree Mason (3 lodges – Shriner, Scottish and Hadji); Military Order of World Wars; BPOE and First Families of Ohio.
