Lynn Wall Bennie Jr., born June 19, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Lynn Wall Bennie and Lois Maxine Pritchett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2013 after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 40 years: Barbara Taylor Bennie, daughter Brooke Bennie Eung and her husband Kheang Shu Eung of Allen; his two grandchildren Madelynn & Cole Eung; his four sisters Angilee McClure and her husband Bob McClure, Manina Duke, Judy McKee and her husband Jay McKee, Janine Bennie; and many nieces and nephews. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents as well as his half sisters Claudia & Dorinda.

Lynn graduated from Foothill HS in Bakersfield, CA in 1968 and continued on to attend Texas A&M University where he studied to be a Civil Engineer while serving proudly in the Corps of Cadets Squadron 5, the Filthy Fifth. In 1971, Lynn's father passed away unexpectedly at the age of 53 and Lynn made the decision to leave college to return home and take care of his mother and sisters.

Lynn's first job in Dallas was at John E Mitchell Co., and then to utilize what he learned at Texas A&M, Lynn started his engineering career at the City of Farmers Branch from which he retired in 2003 after 31 years. After a brief respite of one week, Barbara sent him back to work at Plano ISD's Murphy Middle School from 2003-2008. Engineering was Lynn's true calling though and he reunited with his friend Bob Whaling in working for the City of University Park from 2008-2013.

Lynn loved to travel and had visited 49 of the contiguous states with the last one, Hawaii, booked for this coming November. Lynn and Barbara enjoyed taking cruises and had visited Alaska three times making wonderful memories with family and friends. Lynn's last trip was on a Disney Cruise with his family and grandchildren to the Caribbean. Lynn also loved to go golfing with his friends from church and would go every chance he could despite the grueling chemo treatments. Lynn loved spending time with his grandchildren Madelynn and Cole and will always be known to them as their "Gaga". Each Christmas Lynn also suited up as Santa for Parkland Hospital's Newborn Nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care and would spend Christmas Eve holding sick babies that were unable to spend the holidays at home. He was also actively involved in church life, serving as a deacon, board trustee, and sound technician. Lynn will forever be missed as a devoted husband, father, friend, and Christian servant to all those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First Christian Church of Plano Building Fund. The family of Lynn Bennie wishes to thank Vitas Hospice, Preferred Care at Home, as well as FCC Plano.
