MAXINE FRELING Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2013.

Maxine G. Freling (Ottaway) Born July 22, 1921 and died January 21, 2013. Predeceased by husband, Robert Freling and daughter, Ardis Weber. Survived by children Janet Porter of Rochester, NY; Carl (Gayle) Freling of Canton, GA; Nila (Bernard) Garske and Earl Freling of Ripley, NY; Edra (Robert) Brower of Palmetto, FL; and son-in-law Dale Weber of Sarasota, FL; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A lifelong resident of Ripley, NY, Maxine was an active leader for many years in 4-H, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts; she enjoyed her years of membership in Home Bureau, Women's Democratic Society and South Ripley Methodist Church. Maxine's Goat Milk Fudge was well-known in the Ripley area for many years, a homemade product sold at road-side stands in the early '60s. In the '70's, she and her dear friend, Evelyn Spoon, shared a love of being Beeline Clothing Representatives for home parties in the Chautauqua County area.

Bob and Maxine traveled cross-country several times during their fulfilling retirement, wintering in Florida and spending delightful summers in Ripley. May God bless her Heavenly journey and homecoming. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Ripley Methodist Church, 10008 North East-Sherman Road, Ripley, NY 14775 or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring. Arrangements by Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home.

The sorrow of the faithful is not that of permanent loss, but the tender sense of sadness
that comes in saying good-bye for now to someone we love.
May today's sorrow give way to the peace and
comfort of God's love.
Special prayer for you Carl and the family

What a pretty lady. I know how proud you were of her and her accomplishments. Moms are hard to lose but you will always carry her in your heart and all the things she taught you. Lyn Mathis (Copperhill, TN)

To all of Maxine's
children..and especially Edra.
I tried many times to make
contact with some of you but
could not remember names...
but I want to tell you Bob and
Maxine were the most interesting people to talk with
ever. She and Bob would come to our house when they arrived
back in Florida each year and it was just a joy to have them visit and we missed those times later on. She kept us
informed about each of you and
what you were doing so it
seemed like we knew you personally.

Maxine and I were students in
the upholstery program at Vo
Tech and later on she attended
Democratic Women meetings with
me....so you will know who in
the world I am!

I extend my deepest sympathy to
each of you and may God bless.

To Edra: I know you are missing your mother terribly. But remember that you will see her again one day. You were such a good daughter to her (and your dad...and I saw it first hand)...looking after her (and your dad) the way you did while they lived here in Bradenton. You can look back and know that you did and were a wonderful daughter to your mom and dad. Sincerely, Cindy Quiroz

I will treasure our fun times forever.I know you you will be watching down on us and I know you are rejoicing in Heaven with Grandpa having a grand time! I love hearing all my dad's fun stories from when he was younger and about your amazing Goat Milk fudge.

Always Mrs. Freling to me, I knew you were a great Mom because of Edra's loving devotion to you. She has regaled me, on more than one occasion, with stories of your famous goat milk fudge and BeeLine days! Always calm and knowing, you were a wise woman and you leave a wonderful loving legacy in your children and their children. All my warmest thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by your passing. May the joy of memories shared with you sustain them until you meet again.

Mom;
You truly were a remarkable woman. I will forever be grateful for all you did for your children through scouts, numerous trips, sports and attending everything in which we were involved. Thank you for training us all up in the way of the Lord, and for teaching us to be accountable for our actions, and to be self-reliant. Your devotion and unfailing love for your children is your legacy. If we were in trouble, you were always there to back our hand, but only if we were in the right; God help anyone who tread on your children. Granted, the past eight years were rough for you, but your suffering is not in vain. Before glory, there is suffering, and before a crown, there is a cross. We will all miss you, and we look forward to seeing you in your heavenly home (but not too soon :).
Love Always,
Earl

Our dearest Mother is whole again ... the strong, active, teacher and example of what she taught us and we are comforted with that belief. We will carry on with the tools and preparation you gave us to live our lives in truth, love, compassion and charity on which our legacy will be built.
I look in the mirror and I see you looking back; I use a common phrase and I hear your voice. It was my honor to share the care for you the last years of your life and you will forever be in my heart and part of my soul. I love you, miss you and pray for your peace with the Lord.
Love forever,
Your Number 2 Daughter

How coincidental that Carl's and Clair's mothers should pass within days of one another. Both the Freling and the Feiss families were fortunate to have mothers who lived into their 90s despite the stress that 'those boys!' caused them. Maxine did a lot right as evidenced by her wonderful family! Celebrate the long and well lived life of your mother/grandmother/great-grandmother.

My sincerest condolences to the family for the loss of your dear Mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time.

Ms.Maxine was a great mom and did not spare the rod when I needed it. My other siblings owe me bigtime, because I occupied 95% of her time using the rod. She was smarter than any of her daughters and ran a close 2nd to Earl and I. She will be dearly missed and I can hear her hollering at dad now, "Robert" are you ever going to do anything to straighten out your oldest son? Love you Max

Grandma Freling you always made all of your grandchildren and great grandchildren feel so loved. I remember your sweet voice and your wise stories you would tell when you and grandpa would visit us in Atlanta. The most memorable thing I remember about you was when I was little and you and grandpa would stay with us on your way to Florida and you would sit and talk with me for hours. I loved to bring out my dolls and stuffed animals and I would tell you all about them and you always made me feel like you were hanging on every word I said. Thank you for always being a good listener to me and for teaching us how to live by example. You and grandpa were great models of not only how to be wonderful parents and grandparents but how to live an honest and good life. You were true models of hard work ethic and devoted faith. Rest peacefully on that mountain grandma and job well done! I love you!
