Michael Alan Brayer found his way peacefully to eternal rest at 10:30 in the evening on August 6, 2014 in Yucaipa California surrounded by a tight circle of loved ones.

Michael's grandest contribution to our world was perhaps best to be seen in his twenty-three year career as a dedicated school teacher (graduating from San Diego State University in 1983), educating and enlightening California students under the hire of The San Diego Unified School District. He was over the course of his life, among other things, a noted folk singer, somewhat in the vein of his heroes Woody Guthrie and Mississippi John Hurt, cutting his teeth at the famed Heritage Coffee House in Mission Beach alongside of the likes of Tom Waits and others. He was also an avid bicyclist and once crossed the Unite States along the Oregon Trail, curling along the route of Lewis and Clark, ending up triumphantly in Washington DC.

He leaves proudly behind a son, Joseph Brayer Bradley, as well as two sisters (Monica Brayer, and Mary Brayer Bowman), and a brother (Patrick Brayer), a grand collection of nephew's and nieces, and a clutch of devoted friends, as well as producing a world class collection of his own regional photography. He was proceeded in death by his precious parents, Ralph William Brayer, and Eleanore Rosaline Brayer. Although Michael lived most of his later life in Ocean Beach, and North Park San Diego, he was warmly raised in the steel mill town of Fontana, California.

He was an altar boy as a youth and then returned to the Catholic Church after many years, after having what he termed a "revelatory near-death experience" on the Rogue River in Oregon. At this point in his life he became a devout Catholic and served his faith whole heartedly to the end.

Many tales will continue to be told about him, and his influence will no doubt continue to reverberate for the ages.

"He did what you were trying to do much better than you did, but had the god given gift of never letting you know it", was his brother's observation.

There will be a mass held in honor of Michael at:
St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 17080 Arrow Route in Fontana, California on Friday Aug. 15th at 10AM.

It will be followed by a burial service at:
Green Acres Memorial Park 11715 Cedar Ave. in Bloomington, CA.

The family and friends reception afterwards will be held at the home of Patrick and Holle Brayer, 850 W. 4th St., Ontario, CA. Please feel free to share any personal stories or pictures of Mike with us via email, or in person.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Our hearts and thanks go out to Cornerstone Hospice who were nothing less than angels in Michael's last months.

"I'll miss you Mike (Dad). I was happy to finally meet you back in 1992, when my mom introduced us in San Diego at Anthony's Fish Grotto. Just glad we had..." Joey Brayer-Bradley (Palm Springs, CA)
