Mabel Stafford Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2013.

Mother Mabel G. Stafford

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee.
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee.
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Numbers 6: 24-26

Mabel was born to the late Benjamin and Georgianne Gibson on May 07, 1919, in DeLand, FL. She attended Volusia County Public Schools. She met the love of her life, the late Sam Stafford Jr. and married him in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1950. To this union they had nine children. She answered the call of her master on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 4:28 a.m., surrounded by her loving family.

Mother Stafford gave her life to the Lord at an early age in St. Annis Primitive Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her death. She served on the Mother's Board, Matron Society and Women's Auxiliary. She was an active member of the Noon Day Prayer and Queen of the South Chapter 141 of Eastern Star.

She was a home maker that opened her heart, not only to her family, but to the community that loved and respected her. She was preceded in death by her late husband Sam Stafford, her children; Elizabeth (Stafford) Mainor, Monet Beveritt, and Dirk Stafford, as well as her brothers, Joseph, Ernest, and Wardell Gibson.

She is survived by her children; James Holmes (Barbara), Bernard Stafford, Patricia James (Hilton), Alisa Stafford, Sharon Stafford, Jerry Stafford (Joyce), and Vernese Johnson (Willie), Alonzo Stafford, Monica Banks (Patrick), Shaqweeta Stafford, and Elijah Stafford; her brother Amos Gibson (Juanita), as well as over six generations of grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
John 14: 1-4

A TRIBUTE TO MY MOTHER
I tribute this to a Blessed Child of GOD, my mother, Mama, Mrs. Mabel, one of the greatest women I have ever known in my life. I would like to title this “End of Month”. Reasons for the title are not clear because they vary. It could be because it is a reminder of the time of the month in which we committed your body to its' eternal resting place, or a spiritual revelation that came to me early one morning shortly after your going home to be with our LORD, or a reminder of the personal challenges we all face at these particular periods of times in life as we struggle to find ways to stretch our resources and emotions to get through to the next phases of our lives.

Either way, it is embedded into me that no matter the reasons or struggles. You, in your own special way, have shown us that regardless of everything there is always joy to look forward to on the next day. You have shown us that regardless of our financial status, the amount of substance we have leftover or how emotional drained we may be. We should always know that GOD will provide a source of LOVE for us to draw from as we continue on.

To me, you are a virtual warehouse of LOVE. You have always given everyone you came into contact with, the appropriate amount of love in which they required. I now draw on that source to get me through my “End of Month” periods. I know that even though you are not physically present with us, your Spirit will always be here to provide each of us our appropriate amount of LOVE to get to our next phase of life.

In closing, I just want to say that I, as well as everybody who has had the privilege of knowing you. Love you, miss you and will always treasure the memories and experiences you have blessed us with. I know that your mansion is perfectly built and your crown is as beautiful adorned as you are. To all of us who remain and are awaiting our call to be with the LORD. Remember, just as Mama has shown us, even though we may not agree on everything, as long as we are true to the LORD and conduct ourselves in his way. We should always “Touch and Agree!” Even if we are agreeing to disagree, while having respect for the other's opinion. That way, the source of LOVE in which she supplies us may continue to flow in our lives. By doing this, we will always be able to get through our individual “End of Month” and make it to the joys of our next phases of life.

“From Your loving family; in love, honor and respect!!!”

Granny we miss and love you very much. I want you to know that. Every time Ryley Mae smiles in her sleep my mother (Alisa) says that you are talking to her, and telling her to keep us with God. You didn't get to meet her in person but I know she was born with you in her spirit.
