Mabel Virginia Tate Viars, 81, of 74 Blackfeather trail, Ridgeway, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Carroll County on September 26, 1930 to the late James M. Tate and Lillie York Tate. She was retired after more than forty years with Gravely Furniture Co. where he was a pre assembler. She was a member of Ridgeway Church of God. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Lena Marie Hartley, one half-sister, Edna George, and four brothers, Clyde Monroe Tate, Jack Andrew Tate, Clarence Melvin Tate and Alfred Roscoe Tate. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Lena Marie Hartley, one half-sister, Edna George, and four brothers, Clyde Monroe Tate, Jack Andrew Tate, Clarence Melvin Tate and Alfred Roscoe Tate.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert Haswell Viars of the home, two daughters, Joyce A. Irvine and Linda V. Konorosky both of Ridgeway, two grandchildren, James Michael Holland and Jackie Edward Austin, two great grandchildren, Brandon Austin and Lindsay Austin and one great-great grandchild, Savanna Austin along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the chapel of Community Funeral Service with Director Kelly G. Ratcliff officiating, interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in the chapel of Community Funeral Service of Ridgeway.
