Pine Mountain, Georgia- A remarkable member of the "greatest generation," Mabelle Duncan McCormick died peacefully on February 4, 2013. Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 4071 Macon Road on Friday February 8th from 6pm-7pm. Funeral services will be held CrossPointe Church 2301 Airport Thruway on Saturday February 9th at 11am.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend to many. Mabelle was born to Ben and Ida Mae Duncan on March 23, 1915 in Buhl, Idaho. After attending business college, she moved to California in 1940 and soon thereafter met her husband "Mac" during a World War II blackout in San Francisco. When Mac returned from the Pacific Theatre in 1943, she moved with him to Grand Rapids, MI where their three daughters were born. Upon Mac's untimely death in 1949, she moved to Florida and courageously raised her family with optimism, strength, and good humor.

We will remember Mabelle as a lady who rejoiced in the gift of each day. She was an energetic traveler, an animated storyteller, and an inveterate bargain shopper. With her daughters in tow, she crisscrossed the lower 48 states many times, sometimes picking up hitchhikers in order to help pay for gas. For several decades she was one of the most savvy and formidable real estate agents in central Florida. She never met a stranger.

Mabelle was predeceased by her husband of seven years, Dr. Hugh Collins McCormick, as well as her six siblings. She is survived by her three daughters, Mary (Rick) Conforti of Florida, Susan Messer of Georgia, and Janice (Richard) Leong of Florida. She also leaves five grandchildren: Hugh Collin Messer (Elizabeth), Laura Lee (Robert), Ben Conforti (Lianna), Will Leong, and Mac Conforti. Six great grandchildren, Camille, Grace, and Mac Messer, Noah and Beau Lee, and Amelie Conforti, will miss their Grandma Mabelle, as will her caregiver, Robin. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who adored her.
