Mable Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 2, 2018.

Mrs. Mable Eugine Williams was born June 01, 1927, in Kingston Jamaica to the loving and strict parentage of Mr. Walter Samuel Johnson and Mrs. Helen Richardson Johnson, one of eight children. She was spoiled by her older siblings and she carried their style and sense of dress. "Aunt Mae" as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephews was very articulate and quick to learn. At an early age, teachers saw her zest for learning and her proclivity for being a caring person. As a result, they appointed her to tutor younger students. She was very receptive of good suggestions and was known for being well grounded.
Mable left Jamaica when she was 25 years old, immigrating to London, England in search of better economic opportunities. She worked very hard and saved her money with the intention of reestablishing herself in Jamaica. She returned to Jamaica in 1957 and pursued business interests. She left Jamaica again in 1959 and returned to London where she resumed employment until 1965. In 1965, Mabel returned to Jamaica in semi-retirement. In 1972 Mabel immigrated to the United States, to Madison, Wisconsin, where she secured employment with the Wisconsin Power and Light (now Reliant Energy). She worked as an administrative clerk in the accounting department until she retired in 1992. During the course of her life, Mom was a hairdresser, beautician, seamstress and an industrious entrepreneur. Mom relocated to Marietta, Georgia in 1994 where she lived with her family until her passing on January 02, 2018.
As a world traveler, Mabel enjoyed her journeys to many European countries such as France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. One of her favorite's places was the Rock of Gibraltar. She also traveled to Venezuela, South America, and Trinidad and Mexico.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Walter and Mrs. Helen Johnson, her husband Frank Williams, her siblings, Ivanhoe Facey, Violet Johnson Manning, Gertrude Johnson Nembhard, Joseph Johnson, Birdie Johnson Williams, a number of nieces and nephews and one grandson Master Kenyatta Gray Reid.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Mr. Tyrone Reid (Christine Gray); two grandsons Mr. Chuck Cyrus and Mr. Kwamin Reid; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday Jan. 10 at 1:30 PM in the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with Dr. William H. Camp officiating. Interment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
