Obituary

Mack Ray Buckner of Merritt Island, Florida, formerly of Scottsboro, Alabama passed away on April 19 at his home in Florida. Funeral services will be held at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N. Courtenay Parkway Merritt Island, Florida on Saturday April 26 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the sevice. Mack Ray Buckner of Merritt Island, Florida, formerly of Scottsboro, Alabama passed away on April 19 at his home in Florida.

Mack was born in Greenville, South Carolina to Holston Ray and Lila Reeves Buckner on November 15, 1929. He graduated from Parker High School and served in the United States Navy as an electrician on the U.S.S. Pine Island during the Korean Conflict. He went on to earn a degree in textile engineering from Clemson University with his GI Bill benefits.

He worked as a textile engineer, first for Chemstrand, later called Monsanto and then spent the majority of his career with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company which moved him to Scottsboro, Alabama. He enjoyed golf and even had the honor of achieving a "hole in one". He also enjoyed bowling and was an avid photographer his entire life, winning awards for his photos.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Merritt Island, Florida, daughter, Elaine and CJ Smith of Merritt Island, daughter Linda and Bruce Ingram of Kent, Washington, son Charlie and Becky Buckner of Auburn, Alabama.
He is also survived by his sister Shirley and Bill Irvin of Easley, South Carolina.

He was very proud of his five grandchildren, Jonathan and Zac Moore of Orlando, Florida, Laura Ingram of Newcastle, Washington, and Forrest and Ashley Buckner of Auburn, Alabama.

Also saddened by his passing are his two nephews, Robbie Robertson of Greenville, South Carolina and Michael Robertson of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
