Madge Irene Via Bower, 87, of Fieldale, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Rocky Mount. Irene was born in Patrick County on October 3, 1924 to Charles William Via and Brooksie Stone Via. She retired from Fieldcrest Mills and was a member of Fieldale Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman M. Bower; a grandchild, Tracy Brooke Helms; three brothers, Sam Via, James Via and Roy Thomas Via.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Floyd Anderson of Rocky Mount; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Sherry Bower of Monroe, NC; one sister and brother-in-law, Corinne (Connie) and Thomas M. Crowder of Fieldale; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles William and Norma Via of Bassett; four grandchildren, Nicole Davis, Marion Haynes, Melita Puccio
Darryl Anderson and wife Jane and twelve great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Fieldale Baptist Church with Pastor Frank S. Gribble, III, Rev. Richard Harrison, Dr. Joe Bryant and Rev. Robert C. Bower officiating. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett and other times at the home of Sandra and Floyd Anderson, 1260 Strawfield Circle in Rocky Mount.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.

I have the honor of having this wonderful lady for my mother. She was gracious and loved everyone. If you had her for a friend you were blessed. I miss her and daddy every day.

Irene was such a warm, sweet, and beautiful lady. I loved her smile and I loved it when she called me "one of her girls". I miss her already. Dean and I send our condolences.
