Mae (Komrska) Ghastin, 92, of Traverse City, passed away on April 28, 2014. She was born on January 11, 1922 in Grant Twp. to Frank and Zdenka "Sadie" Komrska Jr. September 21, 1944, Mae married Maxwell G. Ghastin at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. After Max served in the Navy and graduated from Michigan Tech, they lived in various parts of MI, eventually settling in Norton Shores for many enjoyable years. Mae was devoted to her family , and found time for flower gardening, volunteer work with her church, sewing, and later followed her dream of drawing and acrylic painting. Mae (Komrska) Ghastin, 92, of Traverse City, passed away on April 28, 2014. She was born on January 11, 1922 in Grant Twp. to Frank and Zdenka "Sadie" Komrska Jr.

September 21, 1944, Mae married Maxwell G. Ghastin at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. After Max served in the Navy and graduated from Michigan Tech, they lived in various parts of MI, eventually settling in Norton Shores for many enjoyable years. Mae was devoted to her family , and found time for flower gardening, volunteer work with her church, sewing, and later followed her dream of drawing and acrylic painting. After the Lord took Max home, Mae traveled with art groups, and had displays in art shows. She enjoyed volunteer hours at Muskegon Hackley Hospital gift shop. She was dearly loved by family and friends.

Mae is survived by her children Richard (Linda) Ghastin, and Judith (Norman) Schmansky, grand children Jeanette (Scott) Smith, Marie Schmansky, Christopher Ghastin, and Alena Ghastin, great grandchildren Nathan and Emily Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maxwell, siblings Frank Komerska III, Ervin Komerska, and Blanche Fish, and six Brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 6 to 8pm, with a 7pm scripture service at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11am, with visitation one hour prior at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church, Grand Traverse Pavilions, American Legion Post 35, or charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
