Major Harley Ray 'Boo' Cahill

January 7th, 2013 saw the passing of a great man. Major Harley Ray 'Boo' Cahill went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was 78. He was a wonderful husband, loving father, grandfather, and friend to all who crossed his path.
Those left to mourn his passing, and celebrate his life are his wife of 55 years, Mary Ambrose Cahill, of Moss Bluff, four children and their spouses, Lt. Col. Michael Bruce Cahill and wife Carol of Oklahoma City, Diane Cahill Sumrall and husband Paul of DeQuincy, Harley Joseph "Joey" Cahill and wife Marlene of Ragley, and Susan Cahill Duhon and husband Troy of Lake Charles, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one sister Laura Sue Dickerson of Lake Charles and numerous family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Harry Cahill and Glenn Cahill; sister, Diane Cahill.
Harley was born on January 23rd, 1934 to Harry and Daisy Cahill of Goosport, Louisiana. The Lord saved him, and he became a Christian when he was 15. He graduated from Lake Charles High in 1951. He graduated from SLI (UL), in Lafayette in 1955, where he pitched for the Bulldogs (Ragin' Cajuns). He majored in Physical Education and was an USAF ROTC cadet. He played semi-pro baseball for the Crowley Millers. He then reported for duty at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, as a 2LT.
He traveled and moved all over the world and retired as a Major. He worked for the LA Dept. of Revenue and Taxation until retirement in 1999 and was a member of VFW Post 9933. After work, he umpired local and college softball games, and coached several boys' baseball teams.
Harley was a member of Moss Bluff Bible Church, where he served as an Elder, Treasurer, and AWANA leader and also served as a Gideon. He never met a stranger and was a fine example for his children and community.
His Funeral will be 10am, Friday at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will begin Thursday 4pm-8pm and resume Friday 8am until service time. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park.
