Rev. Marcell "Bo" Burchfield, Ed.D., longtime resident of Tarrant City, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 5, 2012, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Martha Frances Rogers Burchfield, with whom he travelled the world and shared all of life's joys and blessings. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Benton and Emma Estelle Burchfield; siblings Cecil Burchfield, Leodis Burchfield, Eloise Burchfield Griffin, Norma Faye Burchfield Brehmer, Billy Ray Burchfield, and Hershell Burchfield. Rev. Marcell "Bo" Burchfield, Ed.D., longtime resident of Tarrant City, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 5, 2012, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Martha Frances Rogers Burchfield, with whom he travelled the world and shared all of life's joys and blessings. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Benton and Emma Estelle Burchfield; siblings Cecil Burchfield, Leodis Burchfield, Eloise Burchfield Griffin, Norma Faye Burchfield Brehmer, Billy Ray Burchfield, and Hershell Burchfield. Survivors include daughter, Emma Lee Burchfield Mixon; son, Thomas Edward "Tommy" Fields; grandson Scott Ashley Mixon (Kathryn); granddaughter Michelle Lee Mixon; great-grandchildren Katilyn Elizabeth Mixon, Sullivan Field Mixon and Samuel Felix Mixon; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly. Rev. Burchfield was a graduate of Howard College (B.A.), Baptist Theological Seminary-New Orleans (B.Div.), Samford University (M.S.) and the University of Alabama-Birmingham (Ed.D.). Rev. Burchfield was a teacher at Boyles Elementary School for many years, and later served as principal of Tarrant Elementary School. As a true servant of the Lord, Rev. Burchfield was honored to serve as pastor of numerous churches including Fultondale First Baptist, Siluria Baptist, Six Mile Baptist, Boyles Baptist, First Baptist-Tarrant and most recently, Plainview Baptist Church in Tarrant City. Rev. Burchfield was also honored to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Jefferson County Mental Health Board, was actively involved for many years with the Birmingham Genealogical Society, as well as numerous other civic and charitable groups and organizations. A memorial service honoring Rev. Burchfield will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel and will be officiated by Rev. Robert Crider, with burial to follow at Moncrief Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012 at the funeral home.
