Marcelle "Mickey" Barkley, 78, of Pensacola, FL passed away July 9, 2014 peacefully with family by his side.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, seven brothers, one sister, three brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law. Mr. Barkley is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Barkley; sons, Donnie and Curtis Barkley; brother, Grayson Barkley; brother and sisters-in-law, John and Fran Conner, Pete and Carlyon Hopkins; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Ray and Bonnie Marsh; grandchildren, Keith Barkley, Buck Barkley, Cole Jones, and Stephanie Aldridge; and great grandkids, Aidan and Ally Robinson. He had numerous nieces and nephews that loved their Uncle Mickey.
Mickey was an US Navy Veteran of the Korean War conflict, a 32nd degree mason, member of the Hadji Shrine Temple, lifetime member of the Navy League and a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. He was a positive and energetic person that people loved to be around. He was very dedicated to his wife and family and loved to hunt and fish. Mickey spent most of his career in the car business working for a very motivated family of many words, Vince Whibbs Auto Group, and loved to tell a joke or two.
A visitation with reception will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from 11:30am to 1pm. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. John Franklin, Sr., will begin at 1pm. Interment with military honors at 2pm will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Whibbs, Mark Whibbs, J.P. Whibbs, Rodger Parker, Wes Conner and Mike Greenwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Smith, Bear Godwin, and Johnny Conner.
Mickey will be greatly missed but not forgotten. The family thanks Hospice for all the support, dedication and the loving care that they provided. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
