We were neighbors of John and Margaret for 11 years (since September 2005). When we moved across the street from them we didn't know anyone in the neighborhood. A couple days after we moved in they came to visit us. They were such nice people! They took us on a tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway, including the church where a lot of the Hites are buried. I had lived in Nelson County as a child in the 50's so I knew a little about the area. And, yes, Margaret could be feisty at times. Our first fall here, we were bagging leaves in 50-gallon bags. She told me to let Art know she didn't want John messing with those big bags. John would bring his lawn chair and watch Art work. They kept us in tomatoes and cucumbers as long as they were able to have a garden. In 2010, when we had that 27" inches of snow, we were in Kansas at our daughter's. We tried to find someone to clear our driveway but didn't have any luck. When we got home, there was John with his snow blower making two tracks up our driveway so we could get in. He had had another neighbor come with a tractor and clear out the drifts from the snow plows in front of our driveway. That's the kind of neighbors they were. They included us at holidays and family times. They loved talking about places they had been (especially John). They also talked about their children and grandchildren. They were so appreciative of anything we did for them in the last few years when they couldn't do a lot for themselves. They were a blessing in our lives. And they are missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. God bless you.

Aunt Margaret was a special aunt and lady! I have such fond memories of spending time with her and the family growing up. I'm so sorry I was unable to attend her celebration of life, but I was fortunate to have spent some quality time with her before she passed. I know what it's like to lose your Mom, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless. Love, Judy
