Margaret Dixon Wooten
Merritt Island, Florida

Margaret Dixon Wooten, age 90, died peacefully while in hospice care in her home, on Merritt Island, Florida, surrounded by her loving children on April 1, 2015.

Margaret ("Peg") was a fourth generation Floridian from the Dixon family in Cocoa, Florida.
She met her late husband, Naval Commander, Amos Leslie ("Les") Wooten after he returned from deployment in the Pacific, during World War II. They married in 1946 and enjoyed a wonderful, loving relationship and life together that lasted 62 years. While in the Navy, they were stationed in Pensacola, San Diego, Monterey, Washington DC, Providence, Norfolk, Oakland, Honolulu, and Rochester. Les retired in 1967 from the Navy and the family returned to live on Merritt Island.

Peg loved bridge and played regularly with bridge groups for decades. She and Les owned a sailboat and enjoyed sailing in the Bahamas with their children for many years. After Les' retirement, they spent several winters in Costa Rica, enjoying the culture and climate of that country. In her later years, Peg enjoyed several trips to Europe with family.

Peg was a charter member of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra as a violinist and a life-long supporter of the organization. She was engaged in reading to young school children in the Rolling Reader Program. Peg also helped deliver meals to home-bound individuals.

She was preceded in death by her husband Les, son Greg, and brothers - Russell and John. She is survived by sister May Dixon Banks, her four children, Margaret, Rosalind, Nicholas and Peter, eight grandchildren and many Wooten and Dixon cousins, nieces and nephews.

Peg was a devoted member of the Georgianna United Methodist Church, however due to renovation at the church, the funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 825 Forrest Ave, Cocoa, FL, at 10:00 a.m. on April 6, 2015.

A visitation will be held at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home at 1360 N. Courtenay Parkway Merritt Island, FL, on Saturday April 4, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.

Donations may be made in her honor to the Georgianna Methodist Church or the Brevard Symphony Orchestra.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Wooten. I am a close friend of her sister, Mrs. May Livingston(who is more like a mother). I am so sorry for your loss and pray the Lord will hold you all in His loving arms during this difficult time.
