Mrs. Margaret Mary Montesanti Allen, 90, a resident of Brunswick, died Sunday 10/23/2011 in the Fairhaven Assisting Living in Brunswick after a 7 year struggle with Alzheimer's Mrs. Allen was born April 23, 1921 in Southern Pine, North Carolina to Angelo Montesanti and Delia Gualterice and was a former resident of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Pinehurst, N.C., before moving to Brunswick. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD., May 11, 1943. Mrs. Allen was born April 23, 1921 in Southern Pine, North Carolina to Angelo Montesanti and Delia Gualterice and was a former resident of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Pinehurst, N.C., before moving to Brunswick. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD., May 11, 1943. She was commissioned in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp as a Second Lt. from 1944 to 1954, having served in Germany and Asiatic Pacific as a Captain. In 1951 she received her Nurse Anesthesiology degree at Letterman Army Hospital. She was awarded the following medals: World War II Victory, Army of Occupation (Germany), American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific campaign and the National Service Medal.
Margaret parents Angelo and Delia Montesanti were emigrates from Italy. Delia Parents and their 12 children immigrated to the U.S. by way of Ellis Island during open-immigration in 1905. Delia and Angelo Montesanti married and moved to Southern Pines, N.C. where they owned a tailor shop and raised their 7 children
She was of the Catholic faith. She had enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, reading and traveling.
She was the last living of 7 siblings, Danta, Constantino, Anthony, Millie, Angelo Montesanti and Theresa Montesanti Quillen.
Survivors are her husband of 40 years, Dr. William W. Allen of Brunswick, a son, Mark William Branigan (Kay) of Plano, Texas, grandchildren, Kelly Branigan of Plano, TX. Paige Klem (Adam) of Durango, Co. and Abby Branigan of New York, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews. She was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friends. She will be missed.
Graveside services will be held at 4 PM Friday 10/28/11 in the Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery with Father Cletus Pifher officiating.
