Margaret M. Bubolz East Lansing Margaret (Peg) Bubolz died February 4, 2012 in Lansing, Michigan. She was born Margaret Jacobson in 1925 on a farm near New York Mills, Minnesota, to Finnish-American parents, Richard and Lillian (Pihlaja) Jacobson and was one of eight children. She was active in 4H and received a BA degree in home economics education at the University of Minnesota. Margaret (Peg) Bubolz died February 4, 2012 in Lansing, Michigan. She was born Margaret Jacobson in 1925 on a farm near New York Mills, Minnesota, to Finnish-American parents, Richard and Lillian (Pihlaja) Jacobson and was one of eight children. She was active in 4H and received a BA degree in home economics education at the University of Minnesota. After graduation she taught public school home economics, then entered the Minnesota Cooperative Extension Service. Margaret earned an MA degree at Cornell and PhD at Purdue in sociology. She worked at Pennsylvania State University, then Michigan State in the Cooperative Extension Service where she was Assistant and Associate Professor, then professor and chairperson of the Department of Family and Child Sciences from 1969-1974. She married George C. Bubolz Sr. in 1971 and joyfully inherited his family. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary before his death. His family treasured her position as their matriarch. She received the Distinguished Faculty and Honorary Alumni Awards at Michigan State. Until her retirement in 1991, she taught and conducted research on quality of life. After retirement, she continued writing, consulting, and speaking nationally and internationally. She was one of the foremost contemporary thinkers and theorists in family-centered human ecology.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her siblings, Richard, Ernst, Theodore, Elsie, and Dorothy, her husband and stepson, George C. Bubolz, Jr. She is survived by her by husband's family: Joanne Bubolz Eicher, St Paul, MN, and Marianne Bubolz, Okemos; her grandchildren, Cynthia Eicher (Blake Johnson), St Paul, MN, Carolyn Eicher (Andy Zink) San Luis Obispo, CA; Diana Eicher, St Paul, MN; George Bubolz III (Charlotte Stafford), Okemos; Eric (Karen Sanders) Okemos; Julie Tikalsky (Paul), Sandy, Utah; and great grandchildren Spencer and Isabella Johnson; Wiley and Sabina Zink; Keith and Violet Eicher; Brooke and Erik Bubolz; Kendall, Sal, and Maya Bubolz; Peter and Daniel Tikalsky. She also leaves behind her sister, Helen (Fred) Allen, Seguin, Texas; brother George (Bernice) Jacobson, New York Mills, MN; sister-in-law Ethel Jacobson, New Prague, MN; and 24 nieces and nephews.

Margaret's family wishes to thank special friends Linda Nelson, Suzanne Sontag, Carl and Shirley Eicher, Dean Ford, and Lauren Montalvo and others who gave support during her recent illness, especially, Rosemary Walker, Elaine Williams, Alice Whiren, and Joanne Keith. They appreciate the care given by Dr. Mia Michelina.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the University Lutheran Church, 1020 S. Harrison, East Lansing, MI 48823. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior at the church.
