Margaret A. Gaudreau, 68, passed away in her home in Norwich on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 after a brave battle with ALS.

She was born on January 29, 1945 in Cooperstown, New York and was the daughter of the late John Rude and Esther (Erickson) Rude. She moved to Wauregan as a young child and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1962.

She was the beloved wife of Albert Gaudreau, having celebrated their 50th Anniversary prior to his death in 2013.

Margaret is survived by her brothers David Rude from New Jersey and Ken Rude from Waterford and her inlaws Mary and Tom Gaudreau of Griswold.

In 1976 Margaret and her husband opened Al's Quality Auto and Marine Electric in New London, which they ran until they retired in 2005.

Margaret is well known in the auto racing community. She was one of the first women involved in racing and owned the famous "Buddha's Bullet" that won 5 Modified Championships at the Waterford Speedbowl during the 70's. Throughout her life, Peg (as she was known in racing circles) loved to go to the races and visit with her lifelong friends.

Margaret was a huge fan of the Connecticut Sun women's basketball team and got such great enjoyment cheering on the girls and regularly visiting with her many friends and family who attended the games.

Margaret believed that 'nothing is more important than family' and she leaves three children, Tina Taylor of Bristow, Virginia; Thomas Gaudreau of Plainfield, and Teri Perrino of Versailles. She was a loving aunt to Lisa (Gaudreau) Casey of Norwich as well as several nieces and nephews from out of the area.

The pride of her life were her four grandchildren, David Gaudreau, Tasha Gaudreau, Bryan Perrino and Ally Perrino and her two great grandchildren Strati and Danica. She was also a loving step grandparent to Jenelle Taylor, Takiya Holden and Cole Pringle.

Margaret was a caring and generous woman who put family and friends first, even as she was confronted with the difficult challenges that living with ALS brought over the last year. She was grateful for her special angel Lori and her other caregivers.

The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 5pm – 9pm at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10am with burial immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery, Boswell Ave., Norwich. A memorial repast will be held at the Maennerchor Club in Taftville thereafter.

Donations may be made in her honor to the ALS Association, Connecticut Chapter. http://webct.alsa.org/site/PageServer?pagename=CT_homepage or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
