Growing up, Margaret lived in Princeton, East Orange, and Bloomfield NJ.  Married to George F. Schumacher in 1943, they lived in Newark NJ and then moved to Tampa Florida in 1954.  Margaret and George were faithful and active members of First Presbyterian Church for many years before transferring their membership to Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church.  She worked at Mass Mutual, Weekly’s Gift Shop, Belk’s, and the Southwest Florida Blood Bank, and also volunteered at several charitable organizations throughout her lifetime.  She enjoyed playing and watching all kinds of sports, but tennis and golf were her favorites.

Margaret had an old player piano that she pumped out the tunes on every day!  Music was her passion and she knew all the words to nearly every popular song, especially ones from the World War II era.  She often said that beautiful music did more for the soul than medicine!  A favorite song of hers was “God Bless America” and she welcomed every opportunity to sing it and show her patriotism to the USA.  She was so proud of her country and wasn’t afraid to show it!

The last five years of her life, Margaret was a resident at Westminster Woods at Julington Creek in St. Johns Florida.  She loved walking around the beautiful campus, attending a variety of entertaining musical programs, and talking to all the nice staff members as well as other residents.

Margaret is predeceased by her mother Nina Louise (Pierce) Maple and her father William Joseph Maple; her sister Janet Maple Osborne; and her husband of almost 66 years, George Frederick Schumacher.  She is survived by her daughter, Lynne L. Schumacher, who lovingly took care of her after George’s death.

Inurnment for Margaret and George will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Northeast Florida Community Hospice Foundation 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257.
