Margrethe Anne was born to John Raymond Ton and Mary June Ton on January 13, 1944 in Lennox, California. She joined her sister Beverly June Ton, who was her big sister. They grew up in Redondo Beach, California, and she always considered herself a "beach bunny". She always talked about Growing up as a "Preacher's kid" or PK, but that did not keeper from having fun. During the summer, Margrethe would join her parents on their various mission trips. Many were to Mexico where she developed a love of the culture and language. Upon graduation from Aviation High School, Margrethe attended the University of California (UCLA). After receiving a Bachelors of Arts and Teaching Credential, Margrethe was employed by Garvey School District in Rosemead, California. Her first school site was Willard Elementary. Latter she went on to earn her Master of Arts from Cal State Los Angeles.

In August of 1963 she married James Paul Trittin. Her first child, James Scott Trittin was born January 30, 1964. Then on April 9, 1968, Greta Anne Trittin, her second child was born. When Margrethe returned from maternity leave in September of 1968, it was to Eldridge Rice Elementary School where she would work until her retirement in June 2004. From September of 1996 until her retirement, Margrethe would often commute to work with her daughter, Greta. It was a secret victory that her daughter had followed her into teaching. She was also especially giddy with joy when her son, James, became an Adjunct faculty member at Cypress College.

May 19, 1997, was a very special day for Margrethe; she witnessed the birth of Kayla Margaret Smith, her granddaughter. Margrethe was the first one to hold Kayla in the delivery room thus cementing a very special relationship. One of Kayla's first phrases was, "Nana, get your checkbook!" Margrethe tended to spoil her grand daughter as she was her pride and joy.

Margrethe was a long time member of Bethany Baptist Church in West Covina. Here she met many people that would become life long friends. Many would become her partners in crime, be it shopping, movie watching or traveling. She loved to travel and had been to Russia once and Europe several times with friends. She had been to Hawaii twice, once with her son and another with her daughter and grand daughter. No matter the destination, Margrethe was up for the journey. Her last trip was a cruise with her dear friend Eileen.

"Dear family of Margrethe, I was shocked to learn of my friend's death. I hadn't seen her in fifty some years. We were best buddies back at Calvary Assembly of God in Inglewood. We used to spend hours on the telephone. We even wrote a little..." -Janice Cunningham Rogers
