Marguerite Walljasper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 24, 2017.

Marguerite "Margee" L. Walljasper, 84, of Ankeny, formerly of Bettendorf, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Mercy Hospice-Johnston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 30, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. First Street, Ankeny, Iowa 50021). Visitation will be Sunday, October 29, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First Street, Ankeny, Iowa 50023). A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.

A native of Des Moines, Margee married Bob Walljasper on April 11, 1953, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines. A devoted and loving wife and mother, Margee greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. As someone who really enjoyed life and being around others, she also enjoyed family and social activities, traveling, playing games, bridge, bingo and bowling. She also had very strong faith.

Margee is survived by her children: Dave (Terri) Walljasper of Centerville, Dan (Lori) Walljasper of Davenport, Tom Walljasper of Coralville, and Mary (Tom) Handorf of Ankeny; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Chuck Ryan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents, and a sister, Mary Staats.

Contributions in Margee's memory may be made to Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny and Mercy Hospice-Johnston. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AnkenyFuneralHome.com for the Walljasper family.

My deepest sympathies to Margee's family, now and in the days ahead. I played bridge with Margee for many years. She kept us updated on the whole family. Mary, thanks for being our waitress and taking our drink orders while we played bridge. She was a grand lady and will be greatly missed.

The Matzen family sends their deepest condolences. Dad got Dan's message but didn't catch the number to call him back. We have so many great memories of our time together on 16th St. All of the camping trips, the coffee dates between your mom and ours, and all we did in the neighborhood. I know she will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
