Maria T. (Fontes) Albuquerque, 89, of Dartmouth passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 after a brief illness in Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio M. Albuquerque.
Born in St. Michael Azores, a daughter of the late Tiberio and Maria Afra (Nunes) Fontes she spent her early years in Azores before coming to America. She attended St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
Maria was a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She enjoyed knitting in her spare time.
She is survived by four daughters, Manuela Jorgensen of Dartmouth, Magi Parta and her husband Jose of New Bedford, Madalena Ferreira and her husband George of Dartmouth, and Mary-John Albuquerque of Boston; a sister, Maria Joao Alves of Dartmouth; 12 grandchildren, Shawn, Amanda, River, Sasha, Sami, Joelle, Vanessa, Tess, Richard, Stasia, Pilar, and Joshua; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Pilar Silva.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 9 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a funeral mass at 10 am in St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
