Passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years at Freeport Health Centre on April 3, 2014. Maria was born on November 21, 1924 in Kletsch (Gottschee) Yugoslavia. She emigrated to Austria in 1945 and then to Germany, from where she emigrated to Canada in 1957. Maria was predeceased by her parents Franz Gregoritsch in 1961 and Rosalia Gregoritsch in 1960, husband Hans Forthuber in 1978 and her stepson, John Forthuber in 2007, and son John Novak in 2003. She is survived by her son Alfred Novak (Sandra) and stepson Peter Forthuber (Brenda) as well as her daughter Helene Meier and stepdaughter Elke Walls of New Brunswick. She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maria has been a very loving mother and grandmother who was dearly loved and admired by all who knew her. We will miss her immensely. She was known for her many culinary skills, especially her Strudels and Tortes. A special thank you to Dr. Fielder, Dr. Ward and Dr. Schwarz for their kind and compassionate care as well as the nurses at Freeport Hospice who are true angels and who took such good care of our dear Mom and Oma.
There will be visitation on Sunday April 6, 2014 from 2-5 pm at Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home (51 Benton St. 519-742-4481) The Funeral Mass will take place on Monday April 7, 2014 at 10 am held at St. Mary's Church (56 Duke St. ) with Father Martin Mikulski officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery.
