MATEUS, MARIA DUARTE PEREIRA Nov. 13, 1910 to Jan. 31, 2013 Maria Duarte Pereira Mateus passed away peacefully on January 31, 2013 at UCSD Medical Center with her family by her side. She lived a long and fruitful life. Beloved mother of two children, Ermelindo (Barbara) and Rui Duarte (Rosa Maria), she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Joaquim Antonio Mateus, on March 3, 2007. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Joel Mateus of San Diego and nieces and nephews in Canada, Portugal and Venezuela. She was born in Moita Dos Ferreiros, Portugal and moved to Montreal, Canada in 1963 with her family and then to San Diego, California in 1969 where she enjoyed the remainder of her life. She will be remembered for her kind heart, positive outlook on life and wonderful smile. She was a very good homemaker who always had great homemade soup and bread available. Portugal was her favorite place to visit which she did often even until her 96th birthday. She has many friends and relatives in Portugal who will miss her. A visitation and viewing will be held in San Diego at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home in San Diego on Wednesday, February 6th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass and Burial will be held in Moita Dos Ferreiros, Portugal on Sunday, February 10, 2013.
