Marian Camp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2013.

Marian Helen Camp was born on April 13, 1924 to Paul and Helen Kinney in Wenatchee, WA. where she spent her childhood years and graduated from high school in 1942. She attended Washington State College until she met a handsome red-headed soldier who stole her heart. Marian married Leslie (Bud) Camp on August 9, 1944. After Les's discharge from the Army Air Corps, they settled in Wenatchee, WA. until employment opened at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, WA. In 1968 they moved to Wilbur, WA. when Les transferred to Grand Coulee Dam. Marian passed away on January 2, 2013 in Davenport, WA.

Marian is survived by Les, her devoted husband of sixty-eight years, seven children – Theresa (Bob) Rohde, Judy (Russ) McKenzie, Richard Camp, Daniel (Bev) Camp, Carol (Glen) Bagley, Patricia (the late Randy) Hatten, and James (Leatha) Camp. She also had twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren with one more expected in the spring, her brother Richard Kinney, her sister-in-law Beryl Jean Kinney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

As a member of Campfire Girls, the Eastern Star, The Red Hat Society, the Wilbur Senior Center, and Wilbur Lutheran Church she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed reading, square dancing, camping, traveling, needlework, following the Mariners, and playing cards & games. She especially enjoyed Bingo and, most recently, Bunco. But she relished nothing more than being with her family and friends. Beginning with her 70th birthday, Marian was treated to a birthday trip every year by her four daughters. They often rented cabins or other accommodations and spent the time visiting, eating, playing games and (of course) shopping. Both Marian and her daughters treasured these retreats.

Marian will be remembered for her great sense of humor, particularly among her many Red Hat friends. She enjoyed all her Red Hat activities – mainly the dressing up in fancy outfits with elaborate red hats and feathers! After many years of making sacrifices for the sake of her family, Marian grew to enjoy dressing in pretty outfits which, of course, required matching jewelry.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dr. Paul Kinney, her sister-in-law Betty Kinney, her son-in-law Randy Hatten, and an infant grandson Richard Rohde. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Wilbur Lutheran Church, 315 S.E. Trinity. Pastor Tom Inch will officiate. The family requests no flowers. Memorials donations may be made to Friends of the Library, P.O. Box 185, Wilbur, WA. 99185 or to the Wilbur Senior Center, P.O. Box 516, Wilbur, Wa. 99185, or the charity of one's choice.
