With her son and daughter at her side, Marian Faye Parker, 69, died at Moses Cone Hospital on March 9, 2017 after an extended period of declining health. A graveside memorial service will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, at 11 AM on Friday, March 17, 2017.

Marian was born in Wake County to the late Ralph Leonard and Drucilla Elaine Sawyer Parker. Marian loved to learn and valued education. She received her B.S. in Business Administration from UNC-G in 1975, followed by a J. D. from Wake Forest in 1978 and finally a Master's degree in Library & Information Science from UNC-CH in 1979. For thirty five years she enjoyed a distinguished career in higher education at some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation. She was a Professor of Law and Director of the Law Library at NYU, Associate Law Librarian at Harvard University, Associate Professor and Director of the Law Library at University of Tulsa, Associate Director of the Law Library at SUNY Buffalo, Research Librarian and Professor of Law at Duke University and retired from Wake Forest University as Associate Dean and Law Professor.

She was blessed with five grandchildren whom she adored. Marian had an outgoing personality and joyful spirit which endeared her to others. Paris and London were two of her favorite destinations although she loved all of Europe and enjoyed time relaxing at the beach. As one might expect, Marian was a voracious reader of all types of literature.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, John Thomas Lamb III and Patricia Lamb (Shane) Naylor both of Summerfield; brother, Ralph Leonard (Catherine) Parker Jr., of Apex; grandchildren, Carson Tucker Lamb, Hunter Ruth Lamb, Grant Alexander Naylor, John Thomas Lamb IV, and Drake Thomas Naylor; and nieces, Katie R. Woodard of Arizona and Elizabeth E. Parker of Chapel Hill. In addition to her parents Marian is preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Parker Ridenhour (2008).

Marian believed in the spirit of kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity toward others. In keeping with those principles, in lieu of flowers Marian wanted kind thoughts for her family during this difficult time, memorial contributions to the Cerebral Palsy Association, 3205 E. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, NC 27505, donations of books to libraries, or donations of blood to the Red Cross.

"I knew Marian for nearly all of my career in law librarianship. She was so much fun! Her smile, laughter, and great attitude helped with the many..." Penny Hazelton (Seattle, WA)
