1928 - 2011

Marie Lorraine Andreetta Acoose (nee Delorme) was called home by the Creator on May 17, 2011. Lorraine was born on November 27, 1928 on the Pasqua First Nation. She was predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Harriet Delorme and her in-laws Paul and Madeline Acoose. Lorraine goes to join her husband Riel; step-daughter Bernice and her husband Alvin; step-son David; sons Laurie and Vernon; brothers Manny, Wildred and Stan Delorme and sisters Pearl and Flora (Tommy) Bear; brother-in-law Fred (Harriet) Acoose; and sisters-in-law Agnes (Ralph) Agecoutay, Alma (John) Irvin, Rosalee (George) Lerat and Viola Delorme. Loving and cherishing memories of her are her children; adopted daughter Eileen; Dennis; Joanne (Boyce); Gwen; Lyle (Heather); Paula (Ray); Lynn (Gil); Kenneth; and Chester; 33 grandchildren and 39 great grandchilden; brothers Reggie and Norman Delorme, sisters, Alma (Cook) Delorme, Evelyn Rowek, Babes Delorme and Rose Acoose; brothers-in-law Raymond, James (Leona) and Edward (Doreen); friends Vickie Bone and Edna McPherson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lorraine was a lifelong farm wife, working in the fields alongside Riel driving trucks, shovelling grain, bailing hay and delivering meals late into the night. Lorraine was also very active in community events on the Sakimay First Nation, as well as organizing and working with the women on the local homemakers club. She loved the spring when she could get out and begin planting her garden and flowers, put out the hummingbird food and seeds for the chickadees and other birds that visited her back yard. Lorraine was known for miles around as the person to go to for the best pies, remaining active in her later years baking her special pies, cakes and other treats for community events. She always kept a stash of treats for her grandchildren when they visited. She loved berry picking, a good joke, watching the Kentucky Derby, cheering loudly for the Riders and could always be depended on to help out where she could. She taught her children and grandchildren the importance of family and caring for those around you. The wake will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011, commencing at 4:00 p.m. with prayers starting at 7:00 p.m. and the funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. all held in the Sakimay Community Complex by Rev. Wojciech Wojtkowiak, OMI and Sister Bernadette Feist, OSU. Cremation will follow the funeral service with the interment being held at a later date. Very special thanks to Father Wojtkowiak and Sister Bernadette for their support and longtime friendship, and to the nurses on ward 4D at the Pasqua Hospital.
