STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Marie Barone, 93, a longtime Westerleigh resident and the loving matriarch of three genera- tions, died Thursday in the Staten Island University Hospital, in Ocean Breeze. She was born Marie Vetrano in Brooklyn, and moved with her family to Utica, N.Y., as a child. She settled in Westereleigh in the 1950s. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Barone also worked as a seamstress for several years at her father's clothing company in Utica. She left the workforce to care for her family and home. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Marie Barone, 93, a longtime Westerleigh resident and the loving matriarch of three genera-
tions, died Thursday in the Staten Island University Hospital, in Ocean Breeze.
She was born Marie Vetrano in Brooklyn, and moved with her family to Utica, N.Y., as a child. She settled in Westereleigh in the 1950s.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Barone also worked as a seamstress for several years at her father's clothing company in Utica. She left the workforce to care for her family and home.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Barone was a member and sponsor in Overeaters Anonymous for many years.
She was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, West Brighton.
Her husband of more than 30 years, John, died in 1985.
Surviving are her sons, Paul and John Jr.; her daughters, Margaret Conte, Janet Badalato, Dorothy Luciano, and Donna Edwards; her foster son, James DeJesus; a sister, Irene Becraft; 14 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, also West Brighton
