Marie Hyacinth Glissendorf transcended this Earthly Realm on June 19, 2014. She was born March 7, 1924 in Nashville, TN. Marie lived in Chicago until 1942 when she attended the University of Illinois-Champaign where she graduated in 1946 with high honors Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Mu Epsilon.

She married Owen Glissendorf in 1946 and moved to Madison, WI where Owen earned his Master's Degree while Marie coordinated the mathematical calculations for the University of Wisconsin's Scientific Research.

They moved to East Lansing, Michigan where Dan was born and Marie worked with Naval Physics research on development of the first U.S. nuclear submarine.

They moved to Champaign-Urbana where David was born in 1953 and then to Geneva, IL where Dale was born in 1955.

The family enjoyed living in Rio de Janeiro for two years where Marie worked as a volunteer for a medical clinic and orphanage in the slums.

They returned to spend the next 20 years in Urbana where Owen worked as a professor and Marie as an assistant assessor for Urbana Township and also for the U.S. Department of Labor.

In 1972 Owen and Marie lived in India where Owen again worked as a consultant for a U.S. Aid Program.

After Owen retired, they moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1977 and for 23 years thereafter, spent their summers in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and winters in Florida.

Whether North or South, Marie found fellowship with various spiritual groups and established valued and lasting relationships with numerous fellow seekers.

In 2000, they returned to Urbana and renewed their many valued relationships formed years earlier.
Owen passed away in 2011 and Marie is survived by her three loving sons.

During her residence in Urbana, Marie volunteered at the Orthopedic Clinic and Carle Hospital Auxiliary.

Marie was a special soul who enriched the lives of all she encountered. Her legacy lies in the many individuals that Marie befriended, consoled, counseled and mentored during her rich 90 years on this glorious earth.
