Obituary

Marie Lillian Tonkin, 87, of Duluth, passed away on June 27, 2011 at Viewcrest Heath Center. Marie was born in Duluth at her family home on Wyoming St. on February 18, 1924 to Fred and Marie Soberg. She was a 1942 graduate of Duluth Central High School. Marie married Kenneth Tonkin on June 5, 1944 at her family home in Duluth. She was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Duluth Traffic and Engineering Department from 1964 until her retirement in 1984. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents and sister, Clarice...

Marie was born in Duluth at her family home on Wyoming St. on February 18, 1924 to Fred and Marie Soberg. She was a 1942 graduate of Duluth Central High School. Marie married Kenneth Tonkin on June 5, 1944 at her family home in Duluth. She was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Duluth Traffic and Engineering Department from 1964 until her retirement in 1984. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents and sister, Clarice Arnold.

Marie is survived by her children, Thomas (Laura) Tonkin of Duluth, MN, Timothy (Linda) Tonkin of Waco, TX, Karen (Michael) Hoppe of Ramona, CA; 4 grandsons, Erik (Rhonda) Tonkin, Paul (Emily) Tonkin, Thomas (Michelle) Tonkin, Derek (Julie) Tonkin; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn Tonkin of Duluth; brother, Raymond Soberg of Duluth as well as many other family members and friends.

Memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church 1814 North 51st Ave. E. Duluth. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church.
