Obituary

SWART, Maring B. “Skip”, of Tampa, retired Funeral Director with Blount & Curry Funeral Home went to be with his Lord & Savior on June 10, 2014. He was predeceased by his father the Rev. Dr. L. Maring Swart and mother Nada R. Keis. Survivors include his wife Shirley J. Swart; sons, Damon G Swart and Mark Anton, Brother Rev. Jon Swart (Nettie), extended family Jeffrey Yeates and the staff of the Blount & Curry Funeral Home- Carrollwood Chapel. SWART, Maring B. “Skip”, of Tampa, retired Funeral Director with Blount & Curry Funeral Home went to be with his Lord & Savior on June 10, 2014. He was predeceased by his father the Rev. Dr. L. Maring Swart and mother Nada R. Keis. Survivors include his wife Shirley J. Swart; sons, Damon G Swart and Mark Anton, Brother Rev. Jon Swart (Nettie), extended family Jeffrey Yeates and the staff of the Blount & Curry Funeral Home- Carrollwood Chapel. A native of Somerset, Pennsylvania he lived in the Tampa area for most of his life. During his 57 years of funeral service he was known by the families he served as epitomizing compassion and professionalism. Skip was a member of the Seminole Heights United Methodist Church and served in the offices of the church. He was a member of the founding Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurses Association and the Life Center of Suncoast serving as Board President until his retirement. Skip served in the United States Naval Reserve, Tampa Police Department as an Auxiliary Officer and SERVE, where he spoke on Death and Dying and Teen Suicide Prevention. He received the Speaker of the Year and Hillsborough County Volunteer of the Year awards. He was ordained in the Independent Assemblies of God International and held revivals in Pennsylvania and New York State. He also preached in several Tampa area churches. Skip was also awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award from the International Society of Poets. Skip was a member of John Darling Lodge 154 F & A.M. and had been a member of the Tampa Consistory Scottish Rite Egypt Temple Shrine Temple and was a Kentucky State Colonel. He was adopted into the Hawk Clan of the Seneca Nation in New York State. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm Friday June 20, 2014 with Masonic Services held at 7:00pm at Blount and Curry Carrollwood Chapel located at 3207 W. Bearss Ave, Tampa. A celebration of his life will be conducted 11:00AM on Saturday, June 21,2014 at Seminole Heights United Methodist Church, 6111 Central Avenue, Tampa with Rev. Duncan Gray and Matt Horan officiating. Police Honors will be rendered by the Tampa Police Department Ceremonial Team. Final services will be held at a later date at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Seminole Heights Methodist Church Building Fund or Life Path Hospice.
