Marion McFadden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 24, 2013.

Marion Eugene "Gene" McFadden age 90 born in Ariton, Alabama, moved from this temporal existence to the reality of his faith on the afternoon of December 22nd 2013. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Alto & Lilla McFadden as well as his older brother Merrill Richardson, older sister Grace McFadden, younger sister Sara Frances Rowe and younger brother George McFadden.
Gene is survived by his wife and faithful companion of 60 years, Janice P. McFadden, two daughters Roxie (Tim) Schlotzhauer and Sara Renee McFadden as well as one son Chuck (Patsy) McFadden. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Kelly McFadden Jackson, Dana Schlotzhauer, Daniel McFadden & Nicole Schlotzhauer as well as four great grandchildren, Amber Allred, Graham Jackson, Davis Jackson & Thomas Jackson. He loved to talk about the accomplishments of his two nieces, Dr. Melinda Rowe Craig and Dr. Sara Rowe Morton. Other family members include his three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and other special nieces and nephews. Gene's family was a great source of pride for him, and always took great pleasure whenever he was offered the opportunity to talk about them.
Gene was a 1951 graduate of Troy State University where he earned his BS degree. He was a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church where he served as an usher and was active in his Sunday school class as well as participating in various senior ministry functions while health permitted. Gene was part of the "greatest generation" and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served as a signalman on the USS Copahee and was involved in several campaigns while deployed in the South Pacific.
Gene's hobbies included home gardening and always enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with his family, neighbors and others. He worked as the manager for Dixie Supply & Furniture Company for over 20 years and in 1978 established his own business as Mac Supply Company. Mr. Mac, known by those on his route, found his niche in his beloved business and absolutely loved what he did. He truly embodied the notion, "if a man loves his job, he will never work a day in his life.
Known as "Gene" to his many friends, "Mr. Mac" to those on his route or who may have ever worked for him, "Uncle Eugene", "Daddy" and "Pa Pa" will be sadly missed. His life and laughter was infectious and an inspiration to all who knew him. While sad to see him go, we have that blessed hope that we will see him again.
Visitation will take place Friday, December 27th at Memorial Gardens on Three Notch Rd from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon with a service to celebrate his life immediately following in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered at www.mmgfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama 36619.
