Dr. Marjorie Anita "Meg" Dachowski, 81, of Fairview Street, Keene, died March 17, 2014 at the Westwood Care and Rehabilitation Center, Keene.

She was born in Willow Springs, Illinois, September 26, 1932, daughter of Harold and Irene (Fenn) McCormick.

Meg grew up in Chillicothe, Illinois, attended Drury College in Springfield Missouri and earned three degrees from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, graduating with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1961.

Meg married Lawrence (Larry) Dachowski in 1960, and they moved to New Orleans, LA in 1962.

In New Orleans she served on the faculty of the Charity Hospital School of Nursing, Dillard University (10 years) and was Director of the Counseling, Career Development and Placement Center at Loyola University in New Orleans. At Loyola she also served as acting director of admissions, and was on the Jesuit Task Force.

Meg was a member of the American Psychological Society, American Association of University Women, and the Association of College and University Counseling Center Directors.

The Dachowski family, were members of the First Unitarian Universalist Church in New Orleans from 1962. Meg served as president of the congregation in 1970-1971 and 1987-1988. She also served two years as treasurer, and sang in the choir.

She moved to Keene in 2000 and was a member of the Keene Unitarian Universalist Church since then. Meg was a member of the Keene Senior Center, and the Historical Society of Cheshire County. She served on the board of MAPS. Meg taught courses in the CALL program at Keene State College, and participated in the Great Books group at the Keene Public Library.

Meg loved to play bridge. She read widely, especially mystery novels and non-fiction such as biographies of women. She enjoyed modern literature, including such authors as Nabokov, Iris Murdoch, and John Updike.

In 1983 Meg wrote an historical sketch of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans. She then expanded it until it became a book completed in November of 2013: The Stranger's Church of New Orleans.

She enjoyed travel. Meg and Larry went to Europe several times, especially Scotland. They crossed North America twice by train. Meg also enjoyed her pets, including dogs Mike, Daisy, Lady, Duchess, and Happy.

Meg is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lawrence W. Dachowski, of Keene; her children: Elizabeth Dachowski and her husband, John Miglietta, of Nashville, TN, David Dachowski and his partner, Joe Provino, of Arlington, MA, Kathleen Dachowski of Belmont, MA, and Anne Dachowski of Ashville, NC. She loved her granddaughter, Eve Renee Miglietta of Nashville. A brother, Phil McCormick and a sister, Virginia McCormick, died earlier.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1:00PM in the Keene Unitarian Universalist Church, 69 Washington Street, Keene. Family and friends are welcome. There are no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Dachowski's memory to the Keene Unitarian Universalist Church, 69 Washington Street, Keene, NH 03431.

The Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
