Marjorie Faith La Polt, 94, passed away peacefully at The Waterford Health Center in Juno Beach, Florida on November 29, 2016. She was born on April 29, 1922 to the late Harold and Minnie Ruth Wood VanKleeck. On October 10, 1942, she married Charles “Chick” F. La Polt. Their love affair lasted 58 years until his death in 2001.
Marjorie graduated with a B.A. from Castleton State Teacher’s College and received her M.A. degree in Reading Education from Plattsburgh State University. She taught in the elementary grades in Hudson Falls Central Schools and served for many years as the districts’ Reading Consultant. An active member of the Iroquois Reading Council and Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society of key women educators, she served terms as President for each organization.
After retirement in 1983, the La Polts moved from Glen Falls, New York to Stuart, Florida where they spent many happy years travelling with friends, golfing, shuffle boarding, and generally enjoying the warm, sunny climate. Along with her dearest friend, Eleanor Clot (who preceded her in death by just 12 hours), they managed the thrift store for St. Luke’s Church contributing thousands of dollars to its coffers.
Left to honor her memory are her children, Charles R. (Karen) La Polt of Clearwater, Florida; Jan (Tom) Dean of Clifton Park, New York and Stuart, FLorida; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert VanKleeck.
