Marjorie Bassett Heater Herring passed over into glory on August 1, 2012, at the age of 91. She was born on December 1, 1920 in Elizabeth City, NC to her parents, Russell Oran Heater and Jesse Muriel Conner Heater. Istalena Lee Boyce Conner was her cherished grandmother. She is preceded in death by her adoring husband of 50 years, Fred Marion Herring of Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Herring was completely devoted to her loving husband and three children who survive her; son Jeffrey Bruce Herring and his wife Deborah Ann Pluto Herring of Dallas, TX, son Russell Monroe Herring and his wife Jennifer Dee Caramela of San Antonio, and daughter Melinda Kay Herring Keller of Mandeville, LA. She is also survived by and was so proud of her five grandchildren, Bruce Edward Herring and his wife Leslie Shaun Wiener-Herring of San Francisco, CA, Mark Alan Herring of Austin, TX, Elaine Ann Herring of Dallas, TX, Ryan Fredric Keller and Laura Melinda Keller of Mandeville, LA. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Ann Heater Morgan of Smithfield, NC, and survived by her sister Dorothy Heater Bland of Surf City, NC, and her brother Robert Heater of Cary, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Herring was a graduate of Flora MacDonald College, worked in Washington, DC for the War Production Board during World War II, and married her handsome prince on June 24th, 1950 in Cary, NC. Dallas, TX became the home town in 1952 with a 6 year residence in Palatine, IL 1964-1970.
She was a lady and a wonderful mother, a phenomenal, southern cook, seamstress, avid reader, genealogist, and founded the Christlieb-Chrislip-Crislip Family Association of which she became the Charter President.
She moved from Dallas in 2004 to San Antonio for her remaining years. She had many loving friends and touched and changed many people's lives. The family is forever grateful that she was blessed with wonderful companions who loved her during her last years and journey to her eternal home; Engrace Martinez, Sandra Hernandez, and Daniella Cuellar. Mrs. Herring's passing will leave a hole in the hearts of many and she will be greatly missed but often remembered, and forever celebrated.
Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Cary, 117 South Academy Street, Cary N.C 27511 at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 11. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM on Saturday, August 11 at Brown–Wynne Funeral Home located at 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC.
