She was born on October 7, 1917 in Lenoir County to Oscar Humphrey Sr. and Emma Smith Humphrey. She was a devoted wife, homemaker, loving "Mama" and "Grandma". Her 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren adored their "Granny Hill".

She was a faithful member of Spring Garden Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught primary sunday school during those earlier years. Mattocks.

Left to cherish her memories are sons Jimmie (Charlene), Freddie (MaryAnn) Larry (Linda) daughters Margaret Murphy (J.K.), Frances Edwards (Bobby), Betty Mattocks and Patricia Hill; 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren; her brothers, John Humphrey, Carlyle Humphrey and Ralph Humphrey along with numerous nieces and nephews.
