Charlotte - Mark Headen, 52, of Charlotte, died unexpectedly on March 28, 2014. He is the son of Frank and Laire Waddell Headen of Charlotte. Mark attended Charlotte Latin School, The Blue Ridge School, and graduated from Oxford Academy in 1980. He also attended Brevard College. He had a great love for Jesus Christ.

Mark had a huge heart and a passion for helping others. His career as an executive in restoration services allowed him to lead teams all over the country in order to help those affected by natural disasters, and to restore the places they worked and lived in. He loved his country very much and aided in the aftermath reconditioning process of many natural disasters and national catastrophes. His industry professionalism was applauded, especially after his post-September 11th and Hurricane Allison, Floyd, and Katrina leadership efforts. Mark truly found pleasure in lending a hand to so many on a daily basis.

His love for the outdoors was evident. In grade school he played lacrosse and football. Throughout his life he always had a lacrosse stick in his hand, enjoyed stringing the heads, as well as teaching his sons how to pass and cradle at an early age. In his teen years, he began white water paddling and eventually became a raft guide on some of the most renowned rivers in the country. He also obtained his aviation license in his early twenties and loved flying. His hobbies were wide and varied; he loved deer hunting, watching the Carolina Panthers, fishing on Lake Norman, traveling with his friends and family, listening to live bluegrass music, and reading.

Mark is survived by his parents, Frank Lee Headen and Hilary Laire Waddell Headen of Charlotte; two sons, Franklin Craig Headen of Savannah and James Edward Headen of Charlotte; his brother, James Gregory Headen of Miami Beach; his nephew, Chandler Harris Headen of Charleston; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral service to celebrate Mark's life will be held on Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Myers Park United Methodist Church sanctuary. The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the North Carolina Outward Bound School in memory of Mark Headen.

"I think about you every day. I pray for us all."
