Dr. Mark Mays, Ph.D. and J.D., 65, passed away suddenly, but peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 22, 2014 in Spokane, WA. He is survived by his wife, Paula Dillon Mays; five children, Chris, Jennifer, Nick, Kim and Kellie; sister, Marilyn; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark was a loving husband, father, brother, grand dad, uncle, and friend. Dr. Mark Mays, Ph.D. and J.D., 65, passed away suddenly, but peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 22, 2014 in Spokane, WA.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Dillon Mays; five children, Chris, Jennifer, Nick, Kim and Kellie; sister, Marilyn; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark was a loving husband, father, brother, grand dad, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for his humor, his unconditional love, his selflessness, his energy, and the countless way he impacted the lives of so many.

He received his B.A. in Sociology and Psychology in 1970 from Austin College, Sherman TX; M.A. in Psychology in 1972 from University of Texas, Austin, TX; Ph.D. in Psychology in 1973 from the University of Texas, Austin and J.D. from Gonzaga Law School in 1985, Spokane. His Post-Doctoral Residency in Clinical Psychology was done at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, as Chief Resident in 1974. He had served on the Board of Trustees, Eastern Washington University from 1997-2003, as Vice-Chair from 2000-2001 and Chair from 2001-2002. He was re-appointed in 2010 for a term to expire in 2015. He served from 2010 to the present with Greater Spokane Incorporated – Health Industry Development Group and was on the Board of Directors, Spokane Community Mental Health Center from 1981-2013 and as President from 1987-1989. He was an Adjunct faculty member of the University of Washington Medical School, Department of Psychiatry- Clinical Professor from 2005 until the present.

He was the Democratic Party candidate for the 5th Congressional District for the State of Washington in 2008.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone, Spokane with Michael Krieg presiding, followed by a reception at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln, Spokane. The Dr. Mark Mays Endowed Scholarship has been established to honor and continue Mark's legacy in higher education. Please make your contributions to the Eastern Washington University Foundation.
