Lisa, I've just learned of Mark's passing and am so sorry for your loss.

When I met Mark at the master's meet in Eugene, I was so taken with his joie de vivre; the happiness he exuded as he threw the disc, watched his competitors throw and just celebrated being in the ring and around fellow throwers.

When I visited you guys in Seattle, I had a blast, loved being "swarmed" by your puppies and still have wonderful memories from that and our big journey months later to the Hoover Dam. It still makes me smile.

He introduced me to kettle balls, the super weights took me on my first scenic tour around Washington State and all the rest and I know I was just one of many, many people who loved him for being Mark.

And, I know he had a corner on those Adidas t-shirts he loved -- I know, because while he had seemingly an endless supply, I could never find a single one... and I looked!

Lisa, I can't imagine how much you miss him, but know, that even now, Karen and I do, too. He was a big man, with a big heart.

God bless.

When I was a college student, I met Mark at Gold's Gym in Kirkland, Washington. He got me involved in powerlifting and took me to my first meet in Oregon. He was one of the most positive influences in my life during college. I lost touch with him, and I am deeply saddened by his death. I wish I had got to tell him that all that anger and rage I had as a troubled youth, he helped me channel into a positive outlet in powerlifitng, and this truly helped me to succeed in life: I went on to medical school and became a doctor. Thank you, Mark, for all you did. I will miss you. My prayers go out to your family.

Lisa, I really loved throwing with Mark at the Nike World Masters games a few years back, having breakfast with you and Mark and meeting your adorable little dogs. I know how passionate he was about working, training and competing in the throws. I always will remember throwing with mark in West Seattle at the Masters meets in the summer and fall. I know that I will see him again in heaven. Dawn and my heart and prayers are coming your way. Gary Zasimovich

Mark was not only my trainer and coach but also a great friend of mine. After years of working out together we became very close. We would talk about everything and joke around a ton. Mark was a huge part of my success in track and where I am in life now. I owe him a lot and will miss him dearly. Love you Mark

We met Mark at the State track meet in 2008 when our son was competing in the throws. Our son was a scrawny sophomore and we were talking about training and lifting. Mark mentioned that he had a gym at his house and we should come take a look. Mark ended up training our son Derek and it had a huge impact on his throwing. When Derek went off to college, Mark continued to work with our younger son, Brock and was making huge progress when he passed. Any gifts we bought him or money we paid him to thank him for training was always put back into the gym and then some, for our sons to use. He was a giver. We won't forget all the fun summer workouts, doing strong man competitions, lifting atlas stones, pushing the sled, and doing farmer's walks. He made training fun and our kids were always safe and motivated. Thanks Mark and God Bless

I am devastated by Marks passing. I remember how we all met at the Masters Track Meet in Spokane and trained together, hiked and hung out. We talked all the time about everthing from track, ilfe and politics. I will miss knowing I could always call for advise or just to hear a friendly voice. I Lisa I wish you all the best and pray for your strength during this difficult time

I had the privilege and honor of working with Mark for many years and I was saddened by the news of his passing. I fondly remember our good natured discussions and arguments over politics, history and the absurdities of everyday life in Seattle. Mark was a true gentleman and it was my pleasure to have known him.
