Mark, a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to all, went home to the Lord on Friday, May 19, 2017, at the age of 56. He was born November 9, 1960, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Rose and Gus Schram. He was married to Malinda Montou Schram, the love of his life, for 36 years. He graduated from McNeese State University and worked at Builders Sav-Mor for 38 years where he became President in 2005. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and an active member of Costal Conservation Association. He served on the board of the Home Builders Association, gaining a lifetime board membership – one of only a handful to do so. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Cathedral and participated in the St. Martin de Porres ACTS Retreat in May 2011. Mark lived life to its fullest – laughing often, loving always and was a rock and inspiration to us all.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Malinda Montou Schram; father, Gus Schram, Jr.; daughters Sarah Schram Edwards and husband Rhett; Amanda Schram LaGrange and husband Blake; brothers Gus Schram III and wife Lisa, Karl Schram, and Eric Schram and wife Catherine; sister Sharon Schram Sturlese and husband David; grandsons Reid and Wade Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rose Burton Schram; mother-in-law, Mable Montou; and father-in-law, Joseph Horace Montou.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Father Brian King will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m., and will resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service, all at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery with pallbearers Craig Childress, Ricky Hanks, Chris Ieyoub, Danny Lanza, Glen Lavergne, John Nichols, Fred Rau and Jamie Yelverton and honorary pallbearer Carey Elder†. In lieu of flowers, the family request Memorials be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in his honor.
The family wishes to sincerely thank all of the staff and physicians that have cared for Mark during the past 7 years: his devoted friend and doctor at Internal Medicine, Dr. Brian Clements; Dr. Samuel Sprehe, ENT; and Christus Home Health all of Lake Charles; the incredible staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center – Dr. Surena Matin, surgeon Genitourinary Medical Oncology; Dr. Bryan Moon and Physician's Assistant Craig Roorda, Orthopedic Oncology; Dr. Frances McAleer, Radiation Oncology; Dr. Karen Chen and Dr. Ana Ciurea, Department of Dermatology; Dr. Valencia Thomas, Mohs Surgery; Dr. Kaveh Karizad, Elizabeth Martin, Wesley Amistad and Edgar Salire, Department of Cardiology; Dr. Horiana Bodana-Grosu, Dr. Roberto Casal and Dr. David Ost, Department of Pulmonology and his devoted and loving oncology team Dr. Eric Jonash and Physician's Assistant Marcia Holloway. To my friends,
The Schram family is one of the most welcoming families I have ever met. When I was the new kid in the 4th grade class, they invited me into their home and lives. Sitting around their dinner table, Coach gave me the crawfish lesson- I better hurry it up or else I would miss out! Coach Mark taught me speed is key with peeling crawfish.
My condolences to the family, y'all are forever in my heart.

Well Mark- you beat us into the City! Congratulation Sugar! You know how much we will all miss you. Maybe even a bit jealous. No, not really. Just wondering how you must feel seeing Your momma and Melinda's mom and dad and of course, being pain free, breathing the fresh clean air and meeting Jesus!! I want you to know that you were a wonderful inspiration to all that knew you. Even in your hard and sad times, you somehow had a smile and an encouraging word for others. You left us with an incredible example of how to live a Christ filled life. Your legacy will live on through your precious Melinda, children, their spouses, grandchildren and of course all of the many friends that loved and admired you. A man of character, loyalty, integrity and kindness.
Until we see you again. We'll be along in the morning. Love Karen
