MARSDEN SANFORD AUSTIN
September 9, 1942 – July 28, 2016

Marsden Sanford Austin, age 73, died at Deaconess Medical Center on July 28, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

Sanford was born September 9, 1942 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Maxine Sanford Austin and David Marsden Austin. He was then raised in Enid, Oklahoma where he attended Enid High School before transferring to Wentworth Military Academy where he graduated. As a child, Sanford attended OU football games with his parents and dreamed of attending the University of Oklahoma. He used to stand outside of the locker room where he would collect chin straps from the players. He attended OU where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He lived in Oklahoma City for a while before moving out of state for many years.

Not long after he moved back he met the love of his life, Judith Fell Fineberg. He said if they could make it a year without fighting they'd get married the next day. And they did. So he chose Wednesday, December 7, 1988 for their wedding date. There was rain during the day for good luck. Then an amazing amount of snow after the ceremony for double good luck. He moved into a home filled with 2 children, 4 dogs, a cat, a rabbit and a parakeet. And he never missed a beat. Sanford enjoyed crosswords, spending time by the koi pond and playing frisbee with his dog Sassy. He and Judy were both huge Sooner fans and had season tickets for football and women's basketball. They always looked forward to each season, attending all of the home games and having watch parties at home with friends for the away games. Once the NBA Thunder arrived in OKC he enjoyed watching them. Sanford was so happy when Judy retired two years ago. All he wanted was to be with her. They spent the last few years traveling, eating amazing food, attending a lot of OU sporting events, Rod Stewart's concerts and laughing together. He was always supportive of his wife's volunteerism. He loved Judy's cooking and always said he'd never had a bad meal at home. All that knew him were aware of his love for sweets, especially chocolate. He was a quiet man, gentle and so very sweet. He was a gentleman until the end.

Sanford was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Ann Boone. Survivors include his wife of almost 28 years, Judith F. Austin of Nichols Hills, Oklahoma, his daughter Shayna L. Marino and her son Hayden of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and his son Thomas Sanford Austin and his wife Lauree Dash, Los Angeles, California. Also step-daughter Elise Fineberg and her wife Candace Palmerlee of Orinda, California and their children Ellery and Cyrus. And step-son Adam Fineberg and his wife Laura of Houston, Texas and their children Avery, Kimberly and Elijah.

The family would like to give a special thanks to their long time family physician Dr. Louis H. Cox, as well as to Dr. Najwa Bahu-Baugh and all of the excellent nurses at Deaconess Hospital, CCU Three East. They helped make a very difficult time a little easier. Chaplain Dennis Frazier was a great comfort during the final hours.

A Celebration of Sanford's life will be held on August 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Hahn Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK followed by a Reception there. Memorial contributions can be made to the Oklahoma City Orchestra League (OCOL), 3815 N. Santa Fe, Suite 105, Oklahoma City, OK 73118 or the Heart Rhythm Institute (HRI) 1200 Everett Drive, TCH 6E103, Oklahoma City, OK 73104.
