Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Marsha Thorne Callister Platner, passed away May 15, 2012. Marsha was born in Salt Lake City July 10, 1947 to Jeanne Callister Thorne and Cyril James Thorne. Marsha married Harris Maxwell Platner November 2002 and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Marsha attended Brigham Young University and graduated from the University of Utah in 1971 with a B.S. degree in Social Science Composite, and a History Minor in Secondary Education. She later earned a teaching degree in Health from the U of U. She taught as a full-time and permanent substitute teacher for 21 years in the Granite...
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Marsha Thorne Callister Platner, passed away May 15, 2012. Marsha was born in Salt Lake City July 10, 1947 to Jeanne Callister Thorne and Cyril James Thorne. Marsha married Harris Maxwell Platner November 2002 and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Marsha attended Brigham Young University and graduated from the University of Utah in 1971 with a B.S. degree in Social Science Composite, and a History Minor in Secondary Education. She later earned a teaching degree in Health from the U of U. She taught as a full-time and permanent substitute teacher for 21 years in the Granite School District.
She was voted a finalist for U.S. Model of the Year, was seen on CBS TV, and won Miss. Jantzen Smile for Utah. Marsha was active in volunteer work and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she taught 10 years in Relief Society as Cultural Refinement teacher. She also served as Young Women's President and in the Primary Presidency. She and her husband Harris were Guest Service Missionaries on temple Square, Librarians, and Emergency Preparedness Specialists.
Marsha was a kind and loving mother. She was very generous and giving to others. She loved the Lord and the gospel. The family would like to thank her doctors for the compassionate care she received. A viewing will be held at the Parley's First Ward Friday May 17, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. A separate viewing will also be held at the Parley's First Ward Saturday May 18th at 11:00 am followed by funeral services. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn. Surviving are her mother Jeanne Callister Thorne, her two beautiful daughters Heather Aileen Gardner (Todd) and Danielle Élan Stewart (Joel), daughter-in-law Stephanie Platner, 21 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Marsha is also survived by sisters and brothers Cheryl DeWitt, Brent Thorne, Bruce Thorne, Janae Bird and Wendy Thorne.
